The first week of competition, “The Champions CSI**” also marks the first leg of the Kubota Triple Crown. Leslie Howard started things off with a speedy win in the first FEI class of the week held on Wednesday. Jeff Brandmaier & Jenny Van Het Waterblok were the runners-up, taking home the blue ribbon. The second FEI event was held Thursday evening, The Open Welcome Presented by Omega Alpha Equine. Six horse and rider combinations advanced to the jump-off but Howard proved untouchable, as she and her mount Donna Speciale crossed the finish line clear and with the fastest time! Leslie also took home the third place award aboard Quadam. Nick Dello Joio also had a stellar evening, placing second, fifth and ninth on mounts Dubai, Sweet Tricia & Dhi Zulu respectively. The Grand Prix, presented by the Delta Hotels Guelph & Dwight Crane will be held at 6:00 pm, on Super Saturday evening.
Professional hunter divisions also concluded yesterday, where a great display of promising young horses was shown. To name a few, Dennis Sweeney & Bentley were our Combined Hunter Champions. Dennis also took top honors in the Baby Green Hunter division this time aboard Likewise. High-Performance Champions were Viva’s Highlight under Quebec professional rider Maude Boulanger Bouchard. The Low Hunter Championship was earned by Taylor Brooks and her mount Heathcliffe. Kristjan Good piloted his mount Adelaide to Pre-Green Championship. Once again, thank you to the whole Looking Back Farm Team for your continued support in sponsoring these professional hunter divisions. Pony Hunters, Children’s and Amateur hunters are up next as well as our Hunter Derby, presented by Pommies.
Our Judges gave a great, informative talk to our trainers and riders who all attended our “Ask The Judge” judges seminar yesterday. Many trainers and their students joined us in an open discussion about judges opinion, do’s & don’ts in the show ring, pro tips and more. We would like to thank our Judges Connie Dorsche & Jim Zulia for taking the time to speak to our exhibitors and giving them the chance to learn from top judges and to everyone that came out and joined the discussion!
