Jacqueline Merrill Wins Angelstone Tournaments’ $7,500 Commitment to Educate Scholarship
ROCKWOOD, ON – Angelstone Tournaments Commitment to Educate 2013 scholarship winner is fourteen-year-old Jacqueline Merrill of Caledon, Ontario.
The annual scholarship program awards a $7,500 scholarship to youth in the community. Students qualify for the scholarship by attending shows throughout the Tournament season and correctly choosing Grand Prix riders that they anticipate will finish in the top three at Angelstone’s Grand Prix events.
This year’s program came to an end with Leslie Howard’s winning round in the Grand Prix at the Angelstone International CSI-W horseshow in September. The students who applied for the program were matched up with Grand Prix riders before the evening class. The winning rider not only secured their own prize money but also won the $7,500 scholarship for the student they were matched with.
When Jacqueline’s name was called in the match-up-draw, before the class that night, she knew exactly which rider she was going to select. “My name was called third, and I couldn’t believe that the first two students hadn’t stolen my pick. I’ve always been such a huge fan of Leslie Howard; I couldn’t even believe I was going to get to watch her compete! As soon as I heard my name, I yelled Leslie Howard!”
Jacqueline currently competes successfully in the medium pony division and upon graduating has plans to attend Guelph University, so that she can continue her riding career. Jacqueline feels that the Commitment to Educate program has made her education goals more attainable. “There’s no question that this scholarship will really positively impact my future, my parents are absolutely thrilled!”
Angelstone ran fundraising Charity Challenges throughout the season with all of its proceeds going towards the Commitment to Educate fund. Congratulations to this year’s $7,500 bursary winner, Jacqueline Merrill. Angelstone Tournaments look forward to the program is continued success in 2014. |
