The 2020 Kubota Triple Crown kicked off last night with 21 of the top Canadian athletes from across the country.
The Triple Crown will award $50,000 for each of the three phases, plus a $50,000 bonus split amongst the top 5 money winners over the three phases. This month has definitely become the highlight of Canadian Show Jumping for 2020, a year where traveling abroad is not possible, and the athletes are dependent on events in Canada to give them opportunities. From the starting field of 21, four managed to answer all the questions set forth by Mike Pegg and advance to the jump-off. Young sensation Sammi Saunders lead the way in the jump-off, but had two late rails to finish 4th. Next to go, Ali Ramsay and Casino put it all on the line, but unfortunately dropped the second to last fence and would eventually finish 3rd. Carly Campbell Cooper was second last time go, and opted to jump a safe clear, guaranteeing her a top 2 finish. That meant it all came down to Beth Underhill and Count Me In. They did not disappoint, leaving all the fences up, and claiming Phase 1 of the Triple Crown! Phase 2 will take place on August 29th and the Final will take place on September 12th. Although we are closed to spectators, you can watch all of the events on our Livestream channel. |
