Candele Strikes Again at Angelstone
SEPTEMBER 1, 2013 – ROCKWOOD, ON – Thirty-five horses competed in the $30,000 Pfaff Grand Prix last night in picturesque EEC grass ring at the Angelstone National Phase II. Fourteen horses went clear in the first round and came back to jump off in what turned into an intense race for first place over the David Ballard designed track.
Yann Candele flew through the jump-off course to beat out the other thirteen competitors and won a $9,000 paycheck for his bold ride. His mount Vortex, a ten-year-old Dutch mare, owned by Mark Hayes and Ashlyn Trevelyan jumped beautifully on the grass. Mark was very proud of his horse and said, “She’s a very careful mare and always tries her best. She’s always been a fighter.”
It ended up being a great night for some of Canada’s up and coming Grand Prix riders. Karina Aziz aboard Top Gun managed a close second-place finish, just behind Candele. Sean Jobin was third aboard Picaso, owned by Michael Grinyer. Finishing fourth was James Gilliam aboard Chanel owned by Maggie Gallagher.
Show jumping will continue through the month of September with the Angelstone International CSI-W, featuring the $100,000 FEI World Cup Qualifier on September 28th. |
