The Erin Welcome marks the beginning of a series of competition weeks here at Angelstone Tournaments, more precisely the Spring Series. This week will be filled with feature classes such as the Open welcome, the Hunter Derby, the Junior & Amateur handy hunter challenge, the Grand Prix and the Modified Grand Prix.
The ten thousand dollars L.A Morris & Associates Open Welcome took place at five pm yesterday evening in the Main Stadium. Thirty one starters took on the challenging course set and designed by Chris Jones.
Eight horse and rider combinations advanced to the jump-off , notably Kim Farlinger, Sam Walker, Courtney Vince, Hugh Graham, Kenya Greenburg, Luis Fernando Saenz Morel, Bhaskar Dasgupta and Keean White.
However, White and the fairly new addition to his string, 7 year old mare Tahiorn came out on top with the fastest, clear jump off round. Very close behind him was young up and coming rider Kenya Greenburg, from Nashville TN aboard Coconut. Veteran Hugh Graham and Knock out 3E were 3rd on the podium.
Also awarded yesterday, were the Championship and reserve Championship awards for the professional hunter divisions, held this past Wednesday and Thursday. Blue Steel, ridden by Kristjan Good were our Baby Green hunter champion. Combined hunter Champion was Bentley, under Dennis Sweeney. Dennis Sweeney swept the high performance hunter division, taking home both champion and reserve champion awards aboard Davenport and Nelson respectively. Sweeney, this time aboard Richmond were awarded the Pre Green hunter Championship. Reserve was Kristjan Good, riding Adelaide.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all the horse and rider combinations who traveled to our venue thus far, for a memorable two weeks of competitive and fun sport. We hope you enjoy the Angelstone experience!
