Call it a home field advantage or just his way with the girls, Keean White adds the $1000 FEI Speed to his list of accomplishments so far at Angelstone Tournaments. Having won during the short time he had arrived home late this weekend, Keean claimed the Modified Grand Prix winning title aboard his lovely, Corette after a double-clear effort in the jump-off on Sunday afternoon. The Headwaterโs Cup had barely commenced yesterday, and White managed to capture the first FEI win of the week with his mount Casandra, owned by Harthill Farm. Winning only by .3 of a second against his Canadian-born teammate Sam Pegg, Keean White hunted to a clean finish, beating Peggโs Caroquados T in a close Speed class second where only time and carefulness was the name of the game in order to capture the $1,000 purse. Bianca Lafontaineโs Boris 218 and Andrew Kocherโs Pebbles IV finished up the class with the fastest times to beat, coming in hot at a time of 66.57 and 66.89. Their unfortunate finishes of 11th and 12th, though extremely impressive in terms of the ability they demonstrated on the field, both contracted unfortunate rails despite their quick times, which cost them the high placings they hoped for in the ribbons.
Keean and his fine chestnut mare, Casandra who entered the ring at a respectable tenth place in the order, maintained their win throughout the remainder of the class due to the mareโs consistency in keeping the fences up, and as well in her ability to finish in respectable time. Letโs hope Keeanโs success continues into tonightโs night class, where Keean will be aboard a three-mare threat of Carrera in fourth, Casandra in fifteenth, and Corette in thirty-sixth in the order.
