With a field of 46 entries, ponies big and small tested their luck yesterday at the official Angelstone Pony crowned champion – the Pony Challenge winner. Elizabeth Parish rode a fabulous track aboard her spotless white Medium Pony, Glenhaven Pick Me to earn an unbeatable score of 89 in the special pony class. What was so exciting about this year’s Great Pony Challenge, in particular, were the thoughtful costumes trainers and parents alike assisted in designing for the kids. The enthusiasm of all creative influencers involved, aboard ponies or not, helped to make the stakes to win the class that much more crucial and of course much more fun! We had a fabulous “Tin Man”, who rode alongside the “Wizard of Oz” team who helped to capture a close third place with another perfectly turned out, team TBE who rode to a sparkle-encrusted podium finish beside the members of the yellow brick road. The adorable Ontario favourite in the small ponies, Morwel Hightide was dressed as the yellow brick road himself, while his trusty rider, Ava Campbell was sporting her adorable “Scarecrow” costume with straw along her bootstraps as well as a big brown sack atop her helmet to put the finishing touches on a perfect Pony Challenge outfit!

We even had devoted Blue Jay’s fans, who sported laced-baseball pom poms on their braids, as well as a giant Blue-Jay’s flag and jerseys as the icing on top of a great team idea. Despite all of the fabulous teams and creativity, the winning team, Canada 150 (in celebration of the country’s 150th anniversary) took the red ribbons aboard the podium to be named the official 2017 Great Pony Challenge team winners! The adorable “3 of a Kind” team, who sported queen of heart hats over their helmets, as well as fun checkered dresses to match the team’s red hearted-colours, claimed second on the podium. And finally, as mentioned earlier team Wizard of Oz and Team TBE huddled onto the third place podium spot to conclude a day filled with tons of ribbons and super stiff competition. On behalf of the Headwater’s Cup and Angelstone Tournaments, we sincerely thank all of the riders, pony moms, and of course the trainers on helping to create another Great Pony Challenge for the books.
