The Caledon Spring Tour – The Caledon Welcome & The Motion Endeavours Cup Highlights

It’s the best time of the year, show season is officially underway!

We are so excited to return to Caledon Equestrian Park to kick off another incredible season at Angelstone Events. The first two weeks have already brought amazing competition, unforgettable moments, and a bunch of eager competitors starting off the season strong! Through it all, the dedication of the riders, trainers, grooms, families, sponsors, and the entire Angelstone Events team has never slowed down.

After a long Canadian winter, there is nothing quite like seeing the rings full again, the barns buzzing, and everyone back doing what they love most.

The opening weeks of the season featured exciting competition across both the hunter and jumper rings, with strong entries and competitive classes from morning to evening. From derby days, to Grand Prix competition, riders came out ready for the start of the 2026 season.

Our jumper highlights included exciting Open Welcome and Grand Prix competition, where top combinations challenged impressive tracks and set the tone for what is shaping up to be an incredible summer season. The energy around the jumper ring during the first two weeks reminded everyone why Angelstone Events is such a special place to compete.

Make sure to come out and experience our Super Saturday events! The competition is unlike anything you have seen before, with attractions and entertainment for everyone to enjoy. From world-class show jumping competition to family-friendly activities like face painting and bouncy castles, there is something for all ages — and admission is completely free!

The hunter rings also welcomed fantastic entries to start the year, with riders competing in everything from pony hunters, and junior/amateur classics, to derby competition and thoroughbred classes. The first weeks of the season already showcased the depth of talent across all levels, and the competition only continues to grow from here.

One of the best parts of these opening weeks has been seeing both familiar faces and new competitors return to Angelstone Events. Whether it was riders moving up to new heights, horses making season debuts, or first-time competitors stepping into the ring, the first two weeks truly captured the excitement that comes with the beginning of show season.

A huge thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, staff, officials, and exhibitors for helping make the start of the season such a success. We cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer brings as the Angelstone Events season continues!

For the first Grand Prix class of the season, Václav Staněk & Langley held onto their winning form, taking victory in the $25,000 Grand Prix after also capturing the $10,000 Open Welcome earlier that week.

Angelstone's Mid Season Report on Special Programs

Now that we’re into early August and the Kubota International week in Caledon, Angelstone would like to report on all of the top horse/rider combinations in our Special Hunter and Jumper Programs. There are seven more shows leG in the Angelstone season, including The Outdoor Finale in October. The four remaining shows in the regular season at Caledon Equestrian Park, during the next two weeks and the two weeks in September, are all worth one and a half times the points. The other three shows in the season, including the two shows coming up later in August in Rockwood (Major League Toronto and The Hunter Spectacular & Labour Day Classic), and The Outdoor Finale in Caledon in October, are all worth double points.

There are four jumper and six hunter programs that we are proud to support and grow throughout this season. Here are the leaders, the ones close behind, and the ones to watch in those programs.

JUMPERS:

$350,000 Grand Prix Series

After the completion of the first eight of these Grand Prix classes, Elliott Stone and his horse Montana are in a strong lead, with Corner Pocket Z, owned by The Z Group, and his rider Mathilde Candele in second. We are watching 15 year old Mathilde with amazement this year… fast like her father, she’s transitioning into the 1.40m with great success.

We’ve also got our eye on the horse/rider combination currently in tenth place, Toucare KDW Z and Isabella Erlick. They’re away at the North American Youth Championships in Traverse City right now, and we are cheering for them from home! It will be interesting to see if they can end up in the top six by the end of the season.

There are five more editions of this National Grand Prix, including Major League later in August, and the final at The Outdoor Finale in October, both worth double points.

$150,000 Modified Grand Prix Series
The top three in this series are only apart by 8 points!! What a thrilling race to watch so far this season. James Gillam and the 9 yr old gelding Devils Decision Z, owned by G&G Sporthorses Ltd., are leading the way, with Ancient of Days, owned and ridden by Grace Gibb, in a close second. In third position, only 8 points behind the leader, is Ashlyn Trevelyan and the 9yr old Dutch Warmblood gelding Laendler C, owned by Cheryl-Ann Schatz.

There are seven more chances for the riders to collect points, including double points at Major League, the Labour Day Classic, and at the final at The Outdoor Finale in October.

$4,000 Pony Jumper Classic Series

The leader of the Pony Jumper Classic Series is Bishops Autumn Dream and owner/rider Alice Bishop. They are leading by 28 points, and second and third position are almost neck-and-neck at a 4 point discrepancy. In second is Kanterra, owned by Ryan Pollock, and ridden by Kristen Pollock, followed closely behind by Call Me A Taxi, owned and ridden by Cara Butcher. Our ‘one to watch’ in the Pony Jumper Classic Series is the pair in fourth position, Logan McDonell, and Ulior De Hombourg. This pony is owned by Mathilde Candele, and he’s a 14 hand Selle Francaise gelding, with a need for speed!! There are four more pony jumper classics this season, including at the Labour Day Classic and The Outdoor Finale, where the competitors earn double points.

$20,000 Thoroughbred Jumper Classic Series

After four classes, sitting on top of this series is Alphadel, owned and ridden by Chloe Schmidt.

The combinations in second, third, and fourth are only 42 points apart, making for an exciting race for the top three in this series! There are four competitions left, including next week at the Carolyn Scime Cup and at the Greenhawk Cup in September, for one and a half times the points, and the Labour Day Classic in Rockwood and The Outdoor Finale in October, for double points.

HUNTERS:

$128,000 Founders Cup Derby Series

After five editions of this derby series, the points are quite spread out – the leader having more than double the points of the combination in sixth position. Levi VDL, a 9yr old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by John Kimmel, and ridden by Kristjan Good, are the leaders with 1191 points.

Lytton Park, owned by Joanna Estey and ridden by Denis Sweeney, are sitting in second with 719 points.

(Lytton Park and Denis Sweeney; photo credit Laurel Jarvis Photo)

Rounding out the top three with 689 points, is Nitecap and Courtney Bacso, owned by Knightwood Stables. With six chances to go, including double points at three of those, anything could happen with the rest of the positions down to eighth! We’re cheering for all the competitors in this series, and excited to see what happens with the $50,000 Rider Bonus, distributed aGer the finale in October.

$8,750 Young Hunter Development Series

We’ve seen four instalments of this interesting young hunter series so far, and there are four left to go, including one at Hunter Spectacular in Rockwood later in August, and the final at The Outdoor Finale in Caledon in October, where competitors will earn double the points.

Leading the way is Rottenegg, a 4 year old mare shown by Cameron Edwards, and owned and bred in Canada by Amy West, with 833 points. Second place has some catching up to do to head into the lead, they’re 151 points behind, but a strong 129 points ahead of third place, that’s BSH Hubba Bubba, ridden and bred by Shawn Butler, and owned by Brooklyn Stafford. Rounding out third is Together Z, owned and ridden by Sarah Barker, with 553 points. We’re keeping our eye on the competitors in this series; there are lots of opportunities for the top six to get juggled up in these last four shows!

$9,500 Pony Hunter Classic Series

These small but mighty competitors have started out strong in the first four pony hunter classics. Large pony, R Time To Dream, owned by Susy Niles and ridden by Lexi Dodson, is way ahead in first with 1366 points. Small pony, Crown Ridge Finnegan, owned by Aarya Armogan and ridden by Penelope Morassutit, is in second with 981 points.

We can’t wait to see how all these pony riders end up in the last four pony hunter classics this season!

$32,000 3’/3’3/3’6 Jr/Am Hunter Classic Series

There have been four of these junior/amateur hunter classics so far, with large entry numbers at all four. There are five left to go, and the top six are close together in points. Chi Town and Emma Wieland are on top.

The entries between seventh and ninth position are only apart by fourteen points, so we’re watching to see what happens with those horse/rider combinations – that’s Jalisco and Lisa Lynch, Kings Town and Emma Wieland, and Tweety Bird and Olivia Flick.

$4,000 Beginner/Low/Jr/Am Hunter Classic Series

Two hunter classics for junior and amateur hunter riders at the 2’6 and 2’9 heights have taken place so far this season. There are two left – one at the upcoming Hunter Spectacular later in August in Rockwood, and the final at The Outdoor Finale in October, both worth double points. Easton, owned by Brooke Wesholowski and ridden by Charlotte Hall is leading the way.

Ocean VDB, owned and ridden by Gwen Basham, are sitting in second. And in third is Realbigwig, owned and ridden by Preslea Combdon. The competitors in the fourth and fifth positions are only 2 points apart, and sixth and seventh are only 6 points apart, so we are watching this series closely to see who ends up in the top eight!

$12,500 Thoroughbred Hunter Classic Series

Way ahead in this series is Thunderbold and owner/rider Jenna Caeiro, with over double the points of the second place combination!

(Thunderbold and Jenna Caeiro; photo credit Laurel Jarvis Photo)

(Thunderbold and Jenna Caeiro; photo credit Laurel Jarvis Photo)

The race is tight between second and third, with Bowen Nefario and Carmen McCloskey with 143 points, and Dolce Coco and Sandra Milligan with 110 points. Between fourth and eighth there are only 23 points, so this is another fantastic race to the finish to watch. There are four more chances leG, including two at double points at Hunter Spectacular in Rockwood in August, and the final at The Outdoor Finale in October.

All of us at Angelstone Events are wishing each and every exhibitor the best of luck in the second half of the Summer, and we thank you for making this such a wonderful season!!
